Best bank 2025: BGL BNP Paribas

BGL BNP Paribas made significant strides in 2024 as it reached the third year of its multi-year transformation plan.

The bank’s push to digitise and streamline client journeys has reached a new milestone, with most of its eligible retail products now accessible online. Clients can easily subscribe to offers, choose their payment cards, and complete loan or mortgage applications through digital channels. The rollout of Genius, the bank’s digital assistant, has further enhanced the customer experience, offering proactive budgeting advice and alerts.

In parallel, the bank has adapted its service models with a particular focus on professionals, entrepreneurs and SMEs. This has included the creation of five dedicated advisory centres and a revamped contact strategy to improve accessibility to experts and account managers. For professional clients, the Web Banking platform has been upgraded to include tools for financial management and greater autonomy in managing payments, including batch transactions and direct debit oversight.

Operational efficiency has been bolstered through the continued industrialisation of core processes. The bank implemented the i-Hub platform, a sector-wide initiative for KYC data management, and helped launch a unified ATM network under the Bancomat brand alongside five other Luxembourg-based institutions. These developments reflect a broader commitment to modernisation and collaboration.

At the infrastructure level, BGL BNP Paribas accelerated its migration to the cloud – with the majority of its applications moved in 2024 – and embedded agile-at-scale practices to enhance team collaboration across services.

These advancements correlated with strong financial performance – operating profit and revenue grew robustly, supported by a healthy loan book and low risk costs – winning BGL BNP Paribas Euromoney’s award as Luxembourg’s best bank.
