Best investment bank 2025: UBS

Despite the challenges faced by the investment banking sector in New Zealand and several delayed transactions, UBS retained its title as the country’s best investment bank in 2024.

This recognition was driven by the bank’s strong leadership across debt capital markets, equity capital markets, and mergers & acquisitions, measured by deal value.

In the debt capital markets, UBS participated in 10 transactions totalling NZ$19.8 billion ($11.3 billion), capturing 50% of the market share – an increase of 9% compared to the previous year.

In M&A, UBS advised on five deals with a combined value of NZ$3 billion, increasing its market share from 17% to 35% in 2024. The bank played a key role in several high-profile transactions, including the proposed acquisition of Manawa Energy by Contact Energy.

On the equity side, UBS completed three deals raising a total of NZ$1.9 billion, securing a 37% market share. Although this represented a significant decline from the previous year’s 67%, UBS led Infratil’s around NZ$1 billion capital raising – New Zealand’s second-largest equity deal by a listed company. This transaction placed UBS at the top of the ECM league table by deal value in 2024.
